Thematic Short Films

The research project conducted 38 interviews with professionals from different generations who have held – or currently hold – roles in the Italian film industry that are often unknown to the general public. The aim is to shed light on many aspects of their work and private lives, through a gender-based approach. From the collection of these testimonies, a complex picture emerged, made up of opportunities and obstacles, satisfactions and frustrations, solidarity and rivalry.

The five short films presented here, which are mainly focused on professionals with the longest experience, are the result of a thematic selection, which aims to reflect on some aspects characterising women’s work in a given historical context and period: Con o senza maestri (With or Without Mentors), on early work experiences in the film industry; Crescere a pane e cinema (Growing up on Bread and Cinema), summarises the role of the family, the support it offers or the difficulties it creates; Poliglotte e multitaking (Polyglots and Multitasking), focuses on the opportunities of working in an international context; A modo nostro (In our own way), deals with solidarity and cooperation among women; Sfondare il muro (Breaking through the Wall), on the theme of discrimination and career obstacles.
