Thematic Short Films

The research project conducted 38 interviews with professionals from different generations who have held – or currently hold – roles in the Italian film industry that are often unknown to the general public. The aim is to shed light on many aspects of their work and private lives, through a gender-based approach. From the collection of these testimonies, a complex picture emerged, made up of opportunities and obstacles, satisfactions and frustrations, solidarity and rivalry.

The short films presented here, which are mainly focused on professionals with the longest experience, are the result of a thematic selection, which aims to reflect on some aspects characterizing women’s work in a given historical context and period. Of the five compilations that have been envisaged, we present for the time being the first two: Crescere a pane e cinema (Growing up on bread and cinema) summarises the role of the family, the support it offers or the difficulties it creates, while Poliglotte e multi-tasking (Polyglots and multitasking) focuses on the opportunities of working in an international context.

Three further compilations will follow: Con o senza maestri (With or without maestri) focuses on the first work experiences in the film industry; A modo nostro (In our own fashion) deals with solidarity and cooperation among women; La strada è ancora lunga (The road is still long) addresses the issue of discrimination and obstacles to careers.
